Isn't it great that everyone is forgiving Michael Phelps for his (23-year old) youthful mistakes? Answer: No, it's not. Here's why...

We have a double standard in this country when it comes to punishing drug offenders. If you're white, then your drug use is a youthful experiment. If you're black, it's a crime. Don't believe me, do you? Then check out this clipping; it's directly from the Sports page of the Palm Beach Post:

The juxtaposition of the headlines exemplifies the double standard. The black wide receiver gets kicked off the team at FSU, but Phelps gets support from his peers.

I almost couldn't believe it when I saw these headlines, literally right next to each other in the paper. If people think Obama just went and solved the race problem, they're mistaken.

I predict Phelps will come back after this debacle. I do not think he is forgiven; it is far too serious and he may go to jail for 30 days. Obama did not solve the racial problem, in part because he is bi-racial. We are a long way from Martin Luther King's dream. Obama scratched the glass ceiling, much like what has happened for women - a scratch.
