It's the end of month five. I've come a long way. From the beginning of the training where a nagging achilles injury prevented me from running and held me back from cycling more than an hour, to week 20, where I...

Key Bike: ...rode 116 miles on Friday after work!!!

I am not too sure how accurate the max speed (386 mph) is on the Garmin, but the 'trip odom' is the length of this monster ride. I left Delray Beach at 3:30pm, hit Stuart, FL, the northernmost tip of the ride around 6:45pm, then made it back to Delray after 10pm. I faced a headwind for most of the 58 mile return trip, and this was a physical and mental challenge. I just felt so good on Friday, I knew I had to make the most of this energy. 116 miles was an incredible journey, one I will never forget. I felt a little bit of knee tightness around mile 70, but I think this was because I was getting sloppy on my pedal stroke. I smoothed out my pedaling, and all felt fine by mile 116.

All other training sessions this week, although monstrous in their own right, pale in comparison to this ride.

Tip of the Week:

Always, always, always carry your cell phone with you when you bike. Imagine if I had had an issue in Stuart, 60 miles away from home, and I didn't have my cell phone. You never know when you'll need it, but you'll be happy you have it when you do need it.
